Remember, you don't have to work in a bad place to turn out great art.... Our studios look good and many have recently been redone. Come see why we partnered with the Woodbridge Neighborhood Development Corp to win a Cool Cities designation from the Governor of the State of Michigan. The arts incubators at 4731 and 4884 Grand River near Woodbridge currently house 40+ studios, 3 galleries and numerous arts organizations. This space is the home of the Architectural Salvage Warehouse of Detroit (ASWD). If you need awesome architectural materials - stop by and take a look - they are open on Saturdays, and have a WEALTH of materials available. If you're building and want good stuff cheap - this is the place to go.
The 4731 Story 4731 Grand River started as a couple of studios and a place for artists to hang out. It has morphed into an arts incubator that includes 7 buildings, 2 galleries, 50 artists studios and craftsmen, workshops, studios and common meeting space. Our focus is on growing arts-related businesses in an environment that welcomes collaboration. We are in the process of finding other investors and art patrons to support this endeavor. You can read about us in a couple of recent articles, "Art Attack" in Crain's, "Blueprint for the Arts", or "Work in Progress, a New Kind of Gallery Aims to Make a Difference" that appeared in the Detroit Fress Press.  All our spaces at 4731 are fresh and clean, utilities are included, we are wired for internet, there is a common area and the 4731 Gallery downstairs. The rooms run from 250 to 600 sq ft, have 10 foot ceilings and are all beautiful. In addition to the space, all in-house artists are featured on the website (see 4731 artists). To reach the buildings, which are located one mile west of the Motor City Casino, take the Grand River exit off the Lodge (southbound), then go west (turn right) exactly one mile to 4731; or take the Grand River exit off 75 (southbound), then go west (turn right) 1.5 miles west to 4731. Or if you are around Wayne State, come west on Warren until you hit Grand River. 4884 is on the left hand corner, and 4731 is 200 yards to the left on Grand River.
